Locksmith in Lansing, East Lansing & Okemos

Need a locksmith in Lansing? Call for mobile service at the car, house, or office in Lansing, East Lansing, Okemos, Holt, Mason, and Grand Ledge.

This is a state-capital and campus market, not a western-Oakland subdivision belt. Jobs here are often a lost fob in a campus lot, a rental rekey between tenants, or an office lockout near downtown or the Capitol complex.

Our services

Automotive, Residential, Commercial Locksmith

Business and campus-area locksmith

Lansing commercial work is offices, clinics, small retail, and state-adjacent suites — not only big-box storefronts.

Common business jobs:

  • Office lockout

  • Rekey after staff turnover

  • Suite change after a new lease

  • Basic master key for a small building

  • Commercial lock repair

Student-area retail and rental offices turn over fast. If keys walked out with the last employee, rekey before the next shift.

Large government or campus access-control systems are a different job. We say so up front if the hardware is outside a mobile locksmith scope

House lockouts and rental rekeys

Lansing housing is a mix of older neighborhoods, student rentals near East Lansing, and newer builds in Okemos and Delta Township.

Common house jobs:

  • House lockouts

  • Rekey after a tenant moves out

  • Rekey after a purchase

  • Lock change on a worn deadbolt

  • Matching several doors to one key

A Novi job is often a new-home rekey in a subdivision. A Lansing job is often a landlord who needs the old tenant keys dead before the next move-in, or a homeowner in an older house whose lock is worn out.

If the lock body is sound, we rekey it. If it is cheap, painted shut, or damaged, we replace it.

Automotive Locksmith in Lansing

  • Car lockouts

  • Key fob programming

  • Key fob replacement

  • All keys lost

  • Transponder key cutting

  • Spare car keys

Lansing and East Lansing calls are often GM, Ford, Chrysler, Honda, and Toyota. Campus and state-lot lockouts are frequent. Have the year, make, and model ready. All-keys-lost jobs may need the VIN and proof of ownership.

The vehicle usually stays where it is. We do not need a dealer drop-off for most fob and transponder work.

How a Job Actually Works

  1. Call with the city and the problem

  2. Confirm the vehicle or lock type

  3. Get an arrival window

  4. A mobile locksmith is dispatched to complete the work on site

  5. The key, fob, or lock is tested before the job is finished

If the job cannot be completed, that should be identified before anyone is sent out.

Why This Is Better Than the Dealer or a Shop

  • The car, house, or office stays put

  • Most fobs are programmed at the vehicle

  • Rental and new-home rekeys without a shop visit

  • Small-office rekeys and simple master keys

Frequently asked questions

Do you actually come into Lansing, or only Howell?

Howell is the home base. Lansing is a regular service city, not a leftover keyword. We send a mobile locksmith to Lansing, East Lansing, Okemos, Holt, Mason, and Grand Ledge for car keys, house lockouts, and small commercial lock work. If your address is in that belt, say the city when you call so the arrival window is honest.

Should I rekey or replace the locks after I buy a house in Lansing?

Rekey if the lock body is sound and you only need previous keys to stop working. That is the cheaper, faster job. Replace if the deadbolt is worn, the key sticks, the hardware is painted over, or it is a bargain lock that will fail after one more winter. Lansing and older Eastside houses hit worn hardware more often than a new Okemos build. We look at the lock on site and tell you which one it is before we start.

What is different about East Lansing jobs?

Novi jobs are often a new-build house rekey or a parking-lot fob at an office park. East Lansing and central Lansing are different stock: student rentals, older houses, campus lots, and small offices that turn over every semester. That changes the job. A landlord often wants the door opened and then rekeyed the same visit so the last tenant’s keys are dead. A worn mortise lock on an older house may need a replacement, not a rekey. Call with the city and the lock or vehicle type so we do not treat it like a Novi subdivision call.

Can you make every exterior door use one key?

Often yes, if the locks share the same keyway. Many houses already do. Some have a mismatched front deadbolt and a side-door lock from a different brand. Those cannot be keyed alike without changing hardware. We check that before promising one-key access.

What do you need before a car-key job?

Start with year, make, and model. That tells us whether the vehicle takes a basic transponder key, a proximity fob, or something we should not dispatch on. For all-keys-lost, have the VIN ready. Some cars also need the title or other proof of ownership before a key is cut. If you only have a photo of the dash and a registration, say that up front. We would rather confirm the job on the phone than roll and bounce.

I’m locked out of a rental near campus. Do you rekey or just open the door?

We can do either, or both. Opening the door gets you in. Rekeying is what stops the old keys from working after a roommate leaves, a tenant is evicted, or keys were copied. Landlords in East Lansing usually want both in one visit so the next tenant does not inherit the last set. If the lock is a cheap rental cylinder that is already failing, replacement is cleaner than another rekey.

Do I need an appointment?

Call first. We’ll confirm the job, what information we need, and give you an arrival window.

Do you set up master keys for small offices?

Yes for small offices, clinics, and retail suites: management opens everything, staff only open their door. That is the usual request after turnover. We do not pretend to take on a full state-building or MSU access-control system. If the door has electrified hardware, a card reader, or a building-wide restricted keyway we cannot support from the van, we say so and do not take the job.

Can you program a fob in a driveway or parking lot?

Most fob and transponder work is done at the vehicle. The car stays in the driveway, street spot, or campus lot. We are not trying to tow it to a dealer for a routine program. A few vehicles need extra modules, a bypass cable, or a chip we do not have on the truck. That should be caught on the call when you give the year, make, and model.

Do you work nights, weekends, or during MSU move-in?

Call and ask for the next window. Lockouts and lost-fob jobs do come in at night and on weekends. Move-in and move-out weekends in East Lansing get stacked. If we are already on a job, you get a real time, not a fake 20-minute promise.

Will you damage the door on a house lockout?

We use non-destructive methods whenever possible. The goal is to get you inside without replacing the lock unless it’s necessary.
